i have defensive loadout (rescue ranger, wrangler, southern hospitality or eureka effect), offensive loadout (frontier justice, stock pistol, gunslinger), and mvm loadout (frontier justice, stock pistol, jag). i switch between these loadouts depending on the situation

Nice. I would recommend either the stock shotgun or maybe widowmaker (if you have it) when you first start out a match while being offensive, cause the frontier justice isn't really useful until you have some sentry kills due to the small clip size.

i've thought about the widowmaker, but i already struggle enough with getting metal, i don't need another way of draining it

Ok. Try and use widowmaker on capture the flag maps when playing defence. It works well for me.
