Trans isn't a separate kind of thing. It's just the label for "hey, my actual gender is not what it says on the tin!" I.e. your deepest sense of self, with respect to gender, happens to disagree with how your body is configured.
Put another way, we do consider ourselves to be the gender we "wanna be", since that's the gender we actually are on the inside. Not our fault that our body came out wrong and tells lies to the world about who we are. Not our fault that the whole world has been believing that lie since the minute we were born, and on that basis, pushing us down a whole life path that just isn't right for us.
