I'm a millennial. I don't know anything about the lone ranger, but I do know superman throws hands without legal authority.

Supe just does what any of us would when face to face with comic-book evil. one nice thing about that sort of evil, it doesn't need to be identified by a court of law. and Supe has a strict code against killing, so that limits the damage.
