not that I wanna know more about it at all, that hellscape can stay mysterious for all I care, but I just think we should understand the rock we live on before trying to look further

Fair enough, but I think it’d be more practical to mine asteroids and harvest resources from other planets. I love the ocean a lot, and it’d be great to have a better knowledge of it, but it’d be simply more beneficial to humanity to go to space.
Also, nasa does explore the oceans using satellite imagery and submarines. So, an increase in funding would further expand both departments

Well, exploring the oceans when they absorb such a high amount of light, are so vast and deep, and have such high pressure, is really difficult, hence why so little is explored. I’m not saying it’s easier to leave earth, but mapping a planet without an ocean would be far easier.
