Robert Jacob Hoopes — now posing as a peaceful Quaker pacifist while out on pretrial release — is the same individual behind a brutal assault on a federal ICE officer in Portland.

Hoopes is charged with aggravated assault of a federal officer with a dangerous weapon and depredation of federal property, causing nearly $8,000 in damage.

During the June 14 anti-ICE riot, Hoopes allegedly hurled large rocks at an ICE facility, one of which struck an officer in the face, leaving a deep gash above the eye. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he and two others also used a stop sign as a battering ram, smashing the building’s main entrance.

Now, with a flower in his hair and a quiet voice, he wants the world to see him as a man of peace.
