Have come to learn this is called sublimation. Not uncommon in the south when Arctic air moves in. 25+ years in east TN I've never seen this. And certainly not in my youth in Michigan. Grok says there was several reports of waterless snow through the eastern part of the state with this storm. But this snow wasn't powder. It was perfect for packing. While it was falling and when I was shoveling it the next day in below freezing temps. I was constantly knocking it off the shovel it was sticking so much. Powder doesn't do that. So much disappeared yesterday, almost maybe half, streams would normally begin swelling. It seemed so strange it must be what it feels like when some say they slipped into a parallel universe!
