Extended Lore
Origin Legend
The first Herzgeist is said to have formed when the Eisenberg Fortress was abandoned.
As people left, their hopes, grief, and unfulfilled promises soaked into the stone.
From that emotional weight, Herzgeist emerged — remembered into existence.
“Stone does not forget. Herzgeist listens for what remains.”
Crystals of Memory
Each crystal ribbon records emotional echoes, not images
Moonlight passing through them may briefly reveal silhouettes of past moments
Older Herzgeist possess longer, more complex crystal formations
Scholars believe destroying these crystals would mean losing pieces of Teutara’s history forever.
Relationship with People
Herzgeist approaches:
Caretakers of ruins
Historians and restorers
Children who treat the ruins with respect
Those it trusts often feel emotional clarity and quiet resolve.
Herzgeist can ease grief — but never erase memory.
Guardian Beliefs
Cracks in stone are said to stop spreading where Herzgeist walks
Ruins under its watch are believed to never fully collapse
Disrespect causes its crystals to dim and its presence to withdraw
A common saying:
“History stands while Herzgeist watches.”
Stillzeiten (Times of Stillness)
On rare nights, Herzgeist’s crystals shine brightly, illuminating the ruins.
During these moments:
Wind stills
Sound fades
Visitors feel overwhelming peace
Teutarans believe Herzgeist is sorting memories, deciding what must be carried forward.
