TITLE: Sail On
Jewels spill from your ivory hands
Precious, not yours to keep
All that glittering beauty cannot be kept
But if you can't have it, no one will
Cast them out to the silver salt sea
They're not yours but at least they're not hers
They can't be for she who stole your dreams
Let the blue-green depths take them instead
Diamonds, opals, from the earth to the ocean
But never for mortal man to hold
Only to look and love
But never to have
Dazzles your eyes and clasps your neck
Wraps your fingers and your wrists
But always crumbles back to dust
As everything eventually must
Walk away from the calling waves
They've thanklessly swallowed your gift
Your clothes are torn and dirty
A thousand bruises and cuts mar your lovely skin
Find home in a filthy back alley
Oil and slag for a slimy bed
But it could be worse, you could be dead
Enjoy this while you can, Hell will be worse
Dusty dawn opens your eyes
The world is already awake
And you think of the gems you cast away
And all the wealth you could have made
But you know she'd find a way back to them
If you hadn't given them to the water
You know you made the right choice
Even as you live in squalor
You bring the bottle to your lips
Bitter laughter spills soon after
You see your enemy fallen too
Now she knows just how you feel
She, like you, has a hard road ahead
Sail on, sister, sail on
It's all you have left to do
Set yourself on a boat and disappear
Never let the sun hit your face again
