Floatin’ all alone in da wata

Today when i arrived in Cultura (yes i skipped my boring morning routine), when i put on my blue vest it was 11:00 am, the start of my shift and…. Leo’s shift. So i ask a colleague (i didn’t know her name at the time, but she is named Servane) if she knows if Leo’s here today and she asks Timothy (yes i did remember his name) for more informations, and he says :

Timothy : Uhmmm, it’s Leo’s resting day today, and Matthew arrives… at 12 !

Me : At 12 ?!

Timothy : Yes he does.

Servane : Oh well you can come help me in the Toy section in the mean time if you want.

Aurora (Director) : Hey ! Why don’t you go do some cleaning in the shelfs, some re-arranging, you think you could do this alone ?

Me : Uhmmm….

Aurora : Or you could just join someone in the library.

Me : Well maybe i could do that.

Aurora : You sure you can’t go alone ? Come on.

Me : Well….. Fine i’ll do it.

Aurora : Attaboy.

Aurora is the Director and she is so sweet, she’s always is smiling and she talks in a very friendly way no matter if she knows you or not. I’ve pulled the triple 7 in terms of place to tryout. Everybody is so friendly i just love it.

Anyway.
And so i go downstairs, anxiously but taken away by bravery, courage pulling me into the water telling me to jump. I open the door to the store. Nobody is there yet. I mean the IM (‘’Instruments de Musique’’ or Musical Instruments in french) is mostly active in the afternoon.
And so i start going through the shelves, trying not to be seen cause i didn’t wanted to be a waste of time for anybody looking for someone that could go through the store inventory with a Note, which i STILL don’t have.
The first thing i do is go to the table where we usually put important stuff, and i found a 4K movie that needed an anti-robbing crate. So i went and got this and put it in it, and i place it in the video section
(for the curious ones, the movie was ‘’You shall not kill’’ or something. I obvioulsy had the french tittle version, but its one of the most W ww2 film i’ve seen, it has Andrew Garfield in it).

Next I put a missplaced tongue drum in its display spot, i re-arranged some cables, placed an article that has fallen on the floor back in place… Some basic stuff.
I then move onto the CD and Vinyls section.
I straighten every CD lines that were checked by customers previously, and it sure looked cleaner after i did this.

Then i did the DVD section. I put some missplaced DVDs back to where they belonged, and then :

Customer : Uhm excuse me sir ?

Me : *chills* *oh no* Hmm yes ? How can i help you ma’am ?

Customer : I would like to know if this keyboard has its cable inside the box.

Me : Well lemme see …. *There is barely anything written on the box*
Me : Well it can function with AAA batteries.

Customer : Yes but no i don’t want to use batteries its too expensive in the end.

Me : Understandable, hmmm i have honestly no idea if there is the cable in it, lemme find a colleague that could maybe help you better than i.

I panic, i need someone now, I’m like someone that has fallen from a boat in a storm barely floating in its life vest, looking for a savior, and then, I SEE TIMOTHY re-arrangeing the anime section of the dvds.

Me : Uhm Timoth…

Timothy : *on the phone* Hmm yes we can deliver these…

I understand that he is talking with a client. I panic. My savior waved at me and got away. I’m drowning. Then :

Timothy : Yes. You’re welcome. Goodbye. *Hangs up* Hello.

MY SAVIOR !!!!!!!!!!!!! HE CAME BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me : This ma’am would like to know if the cable is inside the box of this keyboard.

Timothy : Ooof i have no idea !!!

MY SAVIOR NOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HE HAS FALLEN IN THE WATER WITH ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then i have a brilliant idea :

Me : Well i see the box isn’t sealed with tape or anything, maybe we can check inside, you want us to do it ?

Customer : Well please do.

THE SAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I open the box and… the cable isn’t inside. She asks me if we have some of the cable needed and Timothy says he can’t really check this and that Mathew who would maybe be more helpful than him (and me deadass) would probably know. And it was for instance 11:13 am or something like this, and Mathew would arrive around 12… The customer decided to leave. Almost sold a 70€ keyboard dang it.
I then go to the gaming section but not even a step taken that :

Client : Excuse me sir ?

Me : *looks at customer* *notices customer has phone in hand* *oh no* Yes Ma’am what can i do for you ?

Client : I would like to know if you got this book in the store.

Me : *dark vader nioooooo* *absolute despair* *i deadass need a Note* Welllll…. I can’t really help you with that but maybe i can find one of my colleages who could help you.

Client : I’m fine with that.

And so i start walking towards the library section in search of somebody, but i find nobody. I then go deeper in the library and it seems that this morning, only Timothy and I are on shift for some reason, because i find him, busy with other clients.
I try to get his attention and he says :

Timothy : Don’t worry Ma’am it won’t be long, i will be able to help you in a moment.

Client : Ok thank you. It seems yall ain’t that many in this store.

Me : We aren’t all on shift as of right now yes…

And so I go.
Phewwww.
Time to breath a li-

Old lady : Excuse me sir.

Me : *AGHHHHHHHHHH* Yes what can i do for you ?

Old lady : I would like to know where i could find these *she shows on her phone some airpods and THIS i don’t need a Note to know where they are*

Me : Okay i know where these are, will you please follow me.
She follows me and we arrive in the cds and vinyls section where there is a wall with all kinds of
listenning devices, amps and cables.

Old lady : Ohh these looks fancy *she points at very colorful ones*

Me : Hmm yes they do.

Old lady : But i have a question, what’s the difference between these *she points at the Fancy ones, i don’t remember their brand* and these *she points at JBL airpods*, because the price difference is quite big.

Me : Wellllllll thats a good question lemme check.

In this moment, i knew i had somebody that was on the same level as me.
Ignorant.
And so if i wanted to sell her one of these (yes my objective was to sell one of hem, preferably the JBLs because they are more expensive), i had to either find the differences or create them.

I…. mixed both.

Me : Sooo in the Fancy ones, you’ll get 2 wireless airpods with 30 hours of battery life, which isn’t a lot IF they are used a lot (it might be a lot but i said it cause i wanted to sell the JBLs). And i have a quick question, are you looking for quality or Qualitade del qualitade ? (i did not say it like this but whatever)

Old Lady : Well its for my grandson for christmas so, i kinda want him to have the best.

Me : Well in terms of quality and trustability, I would recommand JBL (HE SPITTIN FACTS), i myself have the chance to have the same ones (HE LYIN), and i’m quite satisfied with the sound they produce (HE DOESNT KNOW).

Old Lady : Well you should, considering they are 80€ compared to 30€. What other differences they have ?

Me : Wellllllll…. On the JBLs you’re gonna have 40H of battery life which is way better, and you’re gonna have a shape that is more comfortable for the hears, also a higher quality sound. On both you have wireless technology and bluetooth.

Old Lady : Hmmm i’m hesitating….

Me : ….. I don’t know what to say more hemm…

Old Lady : Do they have the charging cable ?

*Light bulb*

Me : Hemmmm lemme check…. The JBLs do have it…. Oh… not the Fancy ones tho…

Old Lady : Hmmm well it may be better that i take those then.

Me : Yea i think it fits more what you’re looking for *YESSSSS*.

Old Lady : Well i’ll take them, thank you.

Me : You’re welcome. Have a nice day.

She leaves, and after i see her disapear behind a shelf, i hit the SUIII emote, proud of myself. I just sold my first expensive item, all by myself (i contributed 80€ in the board, ill see tomorow how much it did).

Around 11:43am after the triple wave of ‘’Excuse me sir’’, while i place another missplaced tongue drum, a client says :

Client : Hello sir, herm i would like to buy A pick.
*he did say a pick like A pick, like one singular pick*

Me : Ah yes, these are right….. Over here. But we’re only gonna have them sold in packs.

Client : Ah yes…. But i heard there was a thing about different materials or thickness, what is the diference.

Me : Wellllll we’re gonna have some picks that are 0.58 mm and that are extremly easy to play with, for a more soft playing style and then we’re gonna have 1.50 mm that are more… how to say…

Client : Hard ?

Me : Yea that, more used in like Rock or heavy metal (fake, it just depends on playing style but i had to say some facts to look convicing).

Client : Ah ! Rock’n roll.

Me : Yes.

Client : How many is there in this pack ?

Me : there is normally 12-

Client : Lemme check cause i see there some stuff with colors…
*Opens pack* *drops picks in his hand*

Client : So i see that i got 2 of each.

Me : Yes, in this pack you get 2 of each thickness.

Client : And i cant just get one ?

Me : Well nah you simply don’t, a pick gets damaged quite rapidly if you use it often so, its better to have a whole pack on yourself because a damaged pick can damage the strings and strings can break.

Client : And how much are these ? *Looks* 2.50€ Aww, it isn’t the weight of the world to carry, i can buy that.

Me : Yes its better you buy this one since it has all the thicknesses available.

Client : Yea i’ll buy this one, so i find what fits more my style. Thank you for helping me.

Me : It was a plesasure to help. Have a nice day !

Client : You too.

After this, Mathew arrived. He say what’s up, i say hello.
We start by MASSIVLY changing tags for promotions, then we do some inventory of the stuff we received.
Mathew sees after this that we have the authorization to sell the Fantastic 4 dvds one week earlier to their release date, and it helps us because we had a whole crate filled with hem.
So we move all the Superman dvds onto where we placed all the Jurassic Worlds, to place all the Jurassic Worlds where the Superman were *breath* all this to free up space for the Fantastic 4 dvds.
Its confusing i know.

We then get someone i didn’t expect.
We get a person named Ludovic, born with Down Syndrome, that came here to discover our job.
So Mathew explains to Ludovic what we do.
Btw, Ludovic is one of those that isn’t HEAVLY affected by Down Syndrome, by this i’m saying that he was able to talk, i mean he stuttered a lot but he could speak, and he understood what we said quite well. I found it nice to give the opportunity to someone like Ludovic to discover our job.
And while he was showing to Ludo the percussions, he said to me :

Mathew : By the way Alex, because i saw you’re so into instruments and all, i kinda wanted to know if you would like to help me re-design the whole IM section, like change the places of each products, change some shelves etc… You would like to do it ?

Me : Oh yes for sure *i’m crying, its an honor*

It’s my third day in the job and i already feel trusted.

We then took our lunch break.
During my one hour lunch break, i went to visit a little bit the store because i saw they had kinda cheap paint sprayers, and i was interested for my folk guitar project, because i saw they had the exact color i needed. Only 5€ for one spray can is nice tbh.

I then got back to work with Mathew. Find a seat because we received 2 big boxes of new stuff to release the next day… With the Magic cards Avatar edition boosters… And then we saw ANOTHER BOX WITH 50 CDs INSIDE TO RELEASE TOMOROW…….

We’re talking about a full shelf on both sides of new stuff to sell the next morning.
And so I started price tagging the stuff, putting the anti rob. I also help an old lady that was trying to find some HUNTRX Dolls, but i cannot find them so i go to Mathew (my go to savior) :

Matthew : *Talking with a friend*

Me : *notices Lea that is in charge of the section right next to the toys* Oh Lea, this ma’am needs help to find some ‘’HunterX’’ dolls.

Lea : HunterX ? What’s that ?

Old lady : *shows phone*

Lea : OH THIS !!!! HUNTRX !!! HAHA I WAS WONDERING WHY I DIDNT KNOW WHAT THIS WAS !!!

Me : Ahah *laughs* !

Lea : HUNTERX !!! I’VE NEVER HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE AHHA !!!

I had a funny laugh with her. I genuinly thought that Huntrx was pronunced ‘‘Hunter Iks’’ but i apparently was wrong and it made me laugh for a good 5 minutes.

After finishing price tagging everything, it was my time to go. I honestly had more fun today, and Mathew was kinda more open to me. I think inside he was kinda shy yesterday, but he got used to me and i liked it today cause he did more jokes and all.

Anyway… Its 23:18 (11:18 pm). I should not be awake.
