ANOTHER MEMORY — UNTITLEDGOOBER’S BIRTHDAY
As they continued walking, the sky deepened into a rust-orange twilight.
Goober spoke up again, quietly.
“Do you guys remember my birthday? The one where we tried to bake a cake?”
Corpse.Bride nearly doubled over laughing.
“Oh god YES.”
“To be fair,” Yoshi said, “we almost had it.”
“Almost?” Norther said. “Goober opened the oven and it was a molten blob.”
Randomiser groaned.
“We didn’t know you can’t substitute flour with pancake mix!”
Mewo added casually,
“And Toady put the candles in while the cake was still liquid.”
Toady gestured defensively.
“I thought it would solidify fast! How was I supposed to know it would swallow the candles?!”
Cornball imitated dramatic narrator voice:
“‘And thus, the cake began cannibalizing itself—’”
Everyone laughed harder.
Goober wiped their eyes, smiling softly.
“It was a mess. But it was the first time I really felt like… like someone cared.”
Toady nudged them gently.
“Of course we care. Always.”
