Randomiser sobbed,
“It’s gonna buck us like a vending machine—”
Toady turned to the group.
“Everyone,” they said quietly,
“back away from the door.”
They didn’t ask.
They ordered.
The group obeyed.
All except Devesto, who stayed frozen in place—
caught between fear and guilt.
Yoshi grabbed him by the back of his jacket.
“Hey—HEY! What are you—” Devesto yelped.
Cornball shouted, “WAIT, BRO—”
Too late.
Yoshi shoved him toward the door.
The group stared in shock.
Devesto stumbled forward, slamming palms-first into the cold metal.
He turned around, eyes wide.
“You’re giving me to it?!”
Yoshi’s voice was low.
Steady.
“You lied, you caused panic, and now it’s choosing victims because of your little story.
So you’re going to deal with the consequences.”
The speaker-cat hissed at Devesto like it agreed.
Mewo stepped beside Yoshi.
“We’re done being part of whatever weird narrative you tried to create.
We’re ending it.”
Toady planted a hand on the lockdown override.
“Brace,” they warned.
Devesto slapped the door with both palms.
“No—NO—WAIT—YOU CAN’T—”
CLUNK.
