Spoilation, or more commonly spoliation, most often refers to the legal concept of spoliation of evidence, which is the intentional or negligent destruction, alteration, or failure to preserve evidence that is relevant to a lawsuit. This can result in court sanctions, extended litigation, and other legal and financial penalties. The term can also refer more generally to the act of stripping or taking by force, or the systematic looting and pillaging of property during a crisis or war.
