Dear Madam(s),
My name is Zarif Sami Ahmed, a recent sophomore addition to the Manhattan Village Academy. I found your email addresses via the MUN Poster located in the 9th grade cluster (near Mr. Angelora and Ms. Caporale's room). I'm very much interested in this club.
I've been doing a little homework on my own about this club and its benefits to a future career path. I must say that I'm intrigued, especially in the leadership, cooperation and diplomacy development aspect. It's always great to have public speaking and effective communication, and global awareness to have in our skill inventory --- so to speak. I firmly believe that your club, the Model United Nations team of MVA, is the best place for this.
As for me, I am a debater (I used to participate in an informal debate club in my previous school). I've always been a loud voice in my elementary school (4th to 6th grade) and middle school speeches. In terms of research, I go over secondary, tertiary sources from both the internet and from the NYPL (Mainly the Stavros Niarchos library), develop concise, direct, and detailed information, and organize each portion of the essay/paper in an interconnected manner. I also know people who work at the United Nations and at my country Bangladesh's Embassy, and their accounts are excellent primary sources. Recently, I've participated in the Project Soapbox Speech (though the results of whatever I've completed is pending).
What does this mean to the club? As a part of the MVA student base, it is our responsibility to its maintenance, development and future planning. It doesn't have to be a mammoth task at first. I can contribute to the club by providing in-depth research, data-backed from both the library and firsthand accounts from interviewed employees. Not only that, but at every meeting after school on Thursdays I will engage in discussions and debates on world issues, like development of transport in developing nations. To further my contribution, I am more than willing to create and share short notes for each nation, area or group in order to decrease time wasted on developing them. Lastly, I'm able to aid in the club's logistics: for practice sessions and even mini-conferences. This means sign-ups, posters, keeping track of members' events in an organized spreadsheet, simple rubrics, and include notes for members so each session improves per week.
I'm usually available every day after school, up to 12AM for any online session/work.
