Criminal tax fraud conviction
In December 2022, two entities of the Trump Organization were convicted in a criminal tax fraud case initiated by the Manhattan District Attorney.
The scheme: For 15 years, the company provided "off-the-books" perks to top executives, including former CFO Allen Weisselberg. These benefits included luxury cars, free rent, and other compensation on which they did not pay personal income tax.
The verdict: A jury found the Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation guilty on all 17 criminal counts, including conspiracy and tax fraud.
The penalty: The Trump Organization was fined $1.6 million. Weisselberg pleaded guilty to his role and served jail time.
Trump's involvement: While not personally charged in this case, prosecutors alleged that Trump was aware of the scheme.
