The realistic irony is that his death may very well create more conservatives than anything he said while alive.
I've seen more of the (previously) Left calling out the liberals for their absolutely abhorrent behavior over his death and leaving the party than I've seen switch over any time before it.

In the same way people dying from car crashes caused by someone else doesn't mean all cars should be banned. Pretty sure he said that the crazy people who'd use guns just to hurt others, like his killer for example, shouldn't have access to guns in the same way people getting behind the wheel to run people over shouldn't have access to cars.
