I hate to say this but it won't happen like that. It takes a revolution. Instead of relying on "politicians" to represent us we ourselves need to start running for political office. People think they have to have a prestigious degree or have a squeaky clean background but that ain't true. It never was designed that way. By the people for the people. That means anyone can run. People care about one thing, authenticity. Something these politicians will never have. People like you, me, your coworkers and neighbors are the fix our country needs.
So you're suggesting a true democracy? That doesn't work. All it takes is a majority faction and we all go downhill. People are corrupt. The government has many many checks and balances against itself.
Wtf are you talking about? Yes, the government has checks and balances against its self. You think Bill, the electrician down the street, is more corrupt than our politicians?? Reread your comment.
I never said people aren't more corrupt than the government, I said that they are corrupt. A true democracy doesn't work because majority factions exist.
I'm not saying we should alter the constitution in any way. Just that regular citizens should start running for office. If you think that is a bad thing then I have no idea what to say to you other than read the constitution. When you say "the government" you do realize it's made up of people who were elected right? I have no idea where to go from here in this conversation.
The president isn't elected by the people. The electoral college elects the president. The people vote for representatives in the, you guessed it, house of representatives. The house is part of the national level of the legislature. They work in a bicameral system, sharing their power with the Senate. Also, the people can run for president. ANYONE can run for president (assuming you're over 30 and are an American citizen) there's hardly anything stopping you from running in the elections.
Ok, so we'll disconnect from your home all the infrastructure that taxes pay for - water, electricity, roads, maintenance, sidewalks... There is no such thing as a free lunch, dude.
