Basically when the user does an activity (posting, commenting, voting on an image, moderating, memechatting etc.) it'll say that the user is online next to their username, but when the user does none of the activities for 20 minutes it goes back to offline.
The user should also be able to disable other people seeing if they're active or not by putting {activity: "invisible"} in their tagline

Btw is it possible to build in detectors, like whether the numbers in “my votes” changed

i could just check if their most recent post or comment was posted less than an hour ago, that would be easiest

i suppose i could do that yes but im not sure what the point of detecting new votes would be
