Alex: "Huh- Hey, who are you?" *quickly grabs his bag off a table as he's being carried*

The armoured being stared hastily at Alex, shaking his head as he could visibly make out that he couldn’t him you that now, there was no time.

Sounds of the sky roaring would deafen the sounds worse than an atom bomb by now.

Acting fast and bolting hastily towards the exit as he picked Alex up, the masked being kept on running away from the impact zone.

One brief moment Alex can clearly see that his shelter that he once considered his second home was struck by a big meteor, given its textural roughness, if this masked and armoured being had not saved Alex even a second after, he’d be as dead as all other bodies on the crushed streets…

(tell him not just couldn't him, mb)

After a long while and many quick hazed pauses of rest, Alex and the armored being stopped by outside the city.
Letting him down from his arms and setting down to tie his neck scarf under his helmet, the being seemed exhausted for now, which in one way would be perfect for a chitchat given the unworldy silence.

"You can simply say I'm one of the few warriors or rightly said protectors left on planet Earth... our seer saw this apocalypse coming, and you, little guy, are one of the few chosen ones we had to save." The masked being looked around while speaking, like if he was watching out for any unexpected dangerous while it seemed calmer now outside the mainland.

The masked and armoured being quickly looked at you for a brief moment before letting you back down near a local food bank building since long abandoned.

“You’ll see, comrade, the agency demands your safety…” the being shuffled with their ragged scarf and tightens it around the bottom of their helmet, grunting a bit before looking down at you sitting on the broken road.

"There is no battle, the war has not yet been unleashed." The masked being now giving you a water bottle, surprisingly, the water was actually clean, it was rare for such things nowadays.

A young person, smeared with dirt and ash, huddled in their shelter. They'd stopped flinching with every deafening crash outside. Their ears had already gone numb to it.
There wasn't much else to do, anywhere else to go. Every other exit had already caved in. The pipe water was far from clean but it was water. Maybe the debris in it would stave off starvation. a little longer.
Loaz had not yet accepted their death. The walls were providing for them as well as they could. A roach had skittered across the floor once, two days ago. Loaz had considered eating it, but ultimately did not. It was a sign. It was a mirror. That bug had made it. They would too.
Somehow, they would too.
When it stopped raining rocks.
...
They had not heard the footsteps. Obviously. They were half-deaf and half-dead. However, they did absolutely process being grabbed. The touch shocked the twitching insect back to life. Their head jerked up, tired, bloodshot eyes being stared back at by a mask. Loaz would've screamed, but their throat was far too dry to make much more than a wheeze. There was little to no protest they could put up, even if they wanted. They squirmed, but not much else.
"Wh-" They broke out into a fit of coughing from just the attempt at speech.

Running far and with haste, the masked being grabbed onto Loaz so tight it would feel unreal if anything.

In the distance far, they could see their old shelter becoming further and further away and ultimately just few seconds later, a big, rough meteor landed on the top of it, shmushing down the rest of the shelter with its heavy extraterestial weight.

The shockwave plus the sound really was deafening, what Loaz once called home was now gone, forever. But they, were still alive, after everything.

...

A long run later, Loaz was set down by tall old barn, since decades abandoned.
The masked being grabbed an water bottle and fiber rich bread off his belt, carefully setting it by them alongside a sketchbook with a worn down pen, just incase.

It was clear the being only meant well and no harm, just a kind soul amongst the mayhem and chaos going on nearby.

After a bit, they stopped struggling out of exhaustion, and gave up on speech after shredding their throat. They just watch their little shrinking heap.
Until the sky falls on it.
They inhale sharply. They want to say something. They want to react. But they don't have enough water in their system to waste on tears.
...
Loaz just slumps against the wall of the barn. They don't hesitate to snatch the water bottle and down as much as they can without choking. They do the same with the bread. They'd been drinking dirt water and pondering eating bugs for the past while; whether or not any of this was safe to consume was the least of their worries; at least it was something. The bread may as well have been a gourmet meal.
They finished off the last of the water and let out a rough sigh. They turned their eyes up to the masked person. "Who-" They swallowed down the yet-to-be-fixed dryness in their throat. Their voice was low and worn from disuse. "Who are you?"

"You could call me a protector, a warden from the shadows... protecting the chosen ones till sickness or death pulls me in half." The masked being responded as he'd kneel down by Loaz and tend to their wounds.

"Just call me Monstoro. The protector of this... realm."

"Protector? Ch-chosen ones?" It let out a dry, but notably childish snicker. "*Realm*? What is this, a storybook?" Their foot tapped in time with their laughter, only cut short by occasional flinching when their wounds were touched. They hadn't noticed them. They'd been too caught up in everything else.

"If you still believe fairytales are the present you clearly haven't seen the world." Monstoro grunted, staring at Loaz coldly.

"Our realm is one of many falling apart, its all like the properchy those stupid arctitects found twelve years ago... and yet here we are and EVERYTHING is falling apart."

Monstoro didn't seem the happiest after Loaz thought it was all a story book, after all, he'd been trained just to save them from this danger, the unseriousness felt like a slap in the face for him.

"I'm just sayin' you're spoutin' fantasy buzzwords, such as, for instance, 'prophecy'. Didn't mean that we're *in* a fairytale." They snorted. "Buuut 'chosen one', let's stick to that, what's that mean? What am I chosen for?" It leaned in, cloudy eyes wide with fascination, turned blind to all but its clearly skewed priorities. If it noticed Monstoro's displeasure with its behavior at all, it didn't care.
This *was* a fantasy story as far as Loaz was concerned. No real life person ever gets to see the apocalypse. No real life person gets told they're the 'chosen one' by a mysterious masked figure. No real person should still be alive right now at all.
The thought that this was reality was somehow more unrealistic than the reality itself.

"You among seven other indiviuals were chosen by the prophecy years ago, ofcourse NOBODY could tell you... if someone would have, you wouldn't be so lucky to be alive."

Monstoro responded, his tone cold and leaking some anger.

"Out of anyone you sure are the most stubborn of them, if only you'd actually appreciate that you were chosen!"

He'd grunt again then stand up, looking away from Loaz for a bit, catching his breath and not to lash out in anger at them.

"The prophecy was simple, a warning for all dimensions. Seven chosen ones for each planet had to be saved, or else all realms would collapse into destruction. Everyone thought it was a sick joke until this first started happening...

Three chosen ones were assassinated, their skin flayed and organs long gone. Shortly after this apocalypse started, our realm failed the task miserably and now we are all responsible for all realms collapsing!"

Monstoro stared back at Loaz again, he was visibly shaking as he said that last part.

"After all of that, few of us from each realm were recruited into protectors of our indiviual realms. To save our chosen ones from the danger and sickness ahead."

Loaz just stared up at him for a while, brows ruffled. 'Didn't appreciate it'? How could they if they didn't even know they were supposed to? Double how could they being told they'd be dead if they *did* know? Besides, why would they ask about it if they weren't interested? That wasn't stubbornness, that's not-being-told-what's-going-on. Loaz didn't get what the guy was so peeved with them about.

Trying to piece together the logic there, they were only half-listening to the rest. But they got the gist of it. They're not allowed to die or the world ends. Well- it ends more, they guess.

"So... You have the other three that aren't dead already then? If I'm the worst of 'em?"

"All the chosen ones had to be alive and in safe conditions for all our realms to even survive... do you get it now?!" Monstoro snapped, tightning his knuckles.

He'd sigh, he didn't mean to snap like that, he really didn't.

"Sorry. I keep lashing out at the wrong times."

Monstoro was silent now, he tried to be calm.

"Oh." Well, then what was the point of worrying about Loaz to begin with? If the world's dead anyway. Loaz fiddled with the fabric of their coat. The outburst hadn't answered their question, but they, shockingly, kept quiet about it.

"It's cool, it's the end'a the world, nobody's judgin'." They assured.
