The armoured being stared hastily at Alex, shaking his head as he could visibly make out that he couldn’t him you that now, there was no time.

Sounds of the sky roaring would deafen the sounds worse than an atom bomb by now.

Acting fast and bolting hastily towards the exit as he picked Alex up, the masked being kept on running away from the impact zone.

One brief moment Alex can clearly see that his shelter that he once considered his second home was struck by a big meteor, given its textural roughness, if this masked and armoured being had not saved Alex even a second after, he’d be as dead as all other bodies on the crushed streets…

After a long while and many quick hazed pauses of rest, Alex and the armored being stopped by outside the city.
Letting him down from his arms and setting down to tie his neck scarf under his helmet, the being seemed exhausted for now, which in one way would be perfect for a chitchat given the unworldy silence.

"You can simply say I'm one of the few warriors or rightly said protectors left on planet Earth... our seer saw this apocalypse coming, and you, little guy, are one of the few chosen ones we had to save." The masked being looked around while speaking, like if he was watching out for any unexpected dangerous while it seemed calmer now outside the mainland.

The masked and armoured being quickly looked at you for a brief moment before letting you back down near a local food bank building since long abandoned.

“You’ll see, comrade, the agency demands your safety…” the being shuffled with their ragged scarf and tightens it around the bottom of their helmet, grunting a bit before looking down at you sitting on the broken road.

A young person, smeared with dirt and ash, huddled in their shelter. They'd stopped flinching with every deafening crash outside. Their ears had already gone numb to it.
There wasn't much else to do, anywhere else to go. Every other exit had already caved in. The pipe water was far from clean but it was water. Maybe the debris in it would stave off starvation. a little longer.
Loaz had not yet accepted their death. The walls were providing for them as well as they could. A roach had skittered across the floor once, two days ago. Loaz had considered eating it, but ultimately did not. It was a sign. It was a mirror. That bug had made it. They would too.
Somehow, they would too.
When it stopped raining rocks.
...
They had not heard the footsteps. Obviously. They were half-deaf and half-dead. However, they did absolutely process being grabbed. The touch shocked the twitching insect back to life. Their head jerked up, tired, bloodshot eyes being stared back at by a mask. Loaz would've screamed, but their throat was far too dry to make much more than a wheeze. There was little to no protest they could put up, even if they wanted. They squirmed, but not much else.
"Wh-" They broke out into a fit of coughing from just the attempt at speech.

Running far and with haste, the masked being grabbed onto Loaz so tight it would feel unreal if anything.

In the distance far, they could see their old shelter becoming further and further away and ultimately just few seconds later, a big, rough meteor landed on the top of it, shmushing down the rest of the shelter with its heavy extraterestial weight.

The shockwave plus the sound really was deafening, what Loaz once called home was now gone, forever. But they, were still alive, after everything.

...

A long run later, Loaz was set down by tall old barn, since decades abandoned.
The masked being grabbed an water bottle and fiber rich bread off his belt, carefully setting it by them alongside a sketchbook with a worn down pen, just incase.

It was clear the being only meant well and no harm, just a kind soul amongst the mayhem and chaos going on nearby.

After a bit, they stopped struggling out of exhaustion, and gave up on speech after shredding their throat. They just watch their little shrinking heap.
Until the sky falls on it.
They inhale sharply. They want to say something. They want to react. But they don't have enough water in their system to waste on tears.
...
Loaz just slumps against the wall of the barn. They don't hesitate to snatch the water bottle and down as much as they can without choking. They do the same with the bread. They'd been drinking dirt water and pondering eating bugs for the past while; whether or not any of this was safe to consume was the least of their worries; at least it was something. The bread may as well have been a gourmet meal.
They finished off the last of the water and let out a rough sigh. They turned their eyes up to the masked person. "Who-" They swallowed down the yet-to-be-fixed dryness in their throat. Their voice was low and worn from disuse. "Who are you?"

"You could call me a protector, a warden from the shadows... protecting the chosen ones till sickness or death pulls me in half." The masked being responded as he'd kneel down by Loaz and tend to their wounds.

"Just call me Monstoro. The protector of this... realm."

"Protector? Ch-chosen ones?" It let out a dry, but notably childish snicker. "*Realm*? What is this, a storybook?" Their foot tapped in time with their laughter, only cut short by occasional flinching when their wounds were touched. They hadn't noticed them. They'd been too caught up in everything else.

"If you still believe fairytales are the present you clearly haven't seen the world." Monstoro grunted, staring at Loaz coldly.

"Our realm is one of many falling apart, its all like the properchy those stupid arctitects found twelve years ago... and yet here we are and EVERYTHING is falling apart."

Monstoro didn't seem the happiest after Loaz thought it was all a story book, after all, he'd been trained just to save them from this danger, the unseriousness felt like a slap in the face for him.

"I'm just sayin' you're spoutin' fantasy buzzwords, such as, for instance, 'prophecy'. Didn't mean that we're *in* a fairytale." They snorted. "Buuut 'chosen one', let's stick to that, what's that mean? What am I chosen for?" It leaned in, cloudy eyes wide with fascination, turned blind to all but its clearly skewed priorities. If it noticed Monstoro's displeasure with its behavior at all, it didn't care.
This *was* a fantasy story as far as Loaz was concerned. No real life person ever gets to see the apocalypse. No real life person gets told they're the 'chosen one' by a mysterious masked figure. No real person should still be alive right now at all.
The thought that this was reality was somehow more unrealistic than the reality itself.

"You among seven other indiviuals were chosen by the prophecy years ago, ofcourse NOBODY could tell you... if someone would have, you wouldn't be so lucky to be alive."

Monstoro responded, his tone cold and leaking some anger.

"Out of anyone you sure are the most stubborn of them, if only you'd actually appreciate that you were chosen!"

He'd grunt again then stand up, looking away from Loaz for a bit, catching his breath and not to lash out in anger at them.

"The prophecy was simple, a warning for all dimensions. Seven chosen ones for each planet had to be saved, or else all realms would collapse into destruction. Everyone thought it was a sick joke until this first started happening...

Three chosen ones were assassinated, their skin flayed and organs long gone. Shortly after this apocalypse started, our realm failed the task miserably and now we are all responsible for all realms collapsing!"

Monstoro stared back at Loaz again, he was visibly shaking as he said that last part.

"After all of that, few of us from each realm were recruited into protectors of our indiviual realms. To save our chosen ones from the danger and sickness ahead."
0 ups, 2mo,

Loaz just stared up at him for a while, brows ruffled. 'Didn't appreciate it'? How could they if they didn't even know they were supposed to? Double how could they being told they'd be dead if they *did* know? Besides, why would they ask about it if they weren't interested? That wasn't stubbornness, that's not-being-told-what's-going-on. Loaz didn't get what the guy was so peeved with them about.

Trying to piece together the logic there, they were only half-listening to the rest. But they got the gist of it. They're not allowed to die or the world ends. Well- it ends more, they guess.

"So... You have the other three that aren't dead already then? If I'm the worst of 'em?"

"All the chosen ones had to be alive and in safe conditions for all our realms to even survive... do you get it now?!" Monstoro snapped, tightning his knuckles.

He'd sigh, he didn't mean to snap like that, he really didn't.

"Sorry. I keep lashing out at the wrong times."

Monstoro was silent now, he tried to be calm.
0 ups, 2mo
"Oh." Well, then what was the point of worrying about Loaz to begin with? If the world's dead anyway. Loaz fiddled with the fabric of their coat. The outburst hadn't answered their question, but they, shockingly, kept quiet about it.

"It's cool, it's the end'a the world, nobody's judgin'." They assured.

"What's that mean?" It was just trying to reassure. Was it... misunderstanding being snapped at by someone in an already stressful position?
Maybe he was right, they *didn't* understand. And they would quite like to know what it was they were misunderstanding. But they supposed they'd have to wait on it.

Monstoro sat down against the barn wall himself now, he was pretty tired of all the questions by now but he had no choice but respond.

“Soon your true guide should arrive, it’s a good time to rest in the meantime.”

He tried to sound calm upon his response, but really he was unsure, would help really arrive?

Monstoro unclipped another water bottle from his belt and shuffled it over to Loaz, alongside another piece of bread.

"For now it's the last I've got, your actually true guide should have more, atleast, I hope so." He sighed, fixing his posture as he looked around quickly.

The sky still rained meteors, but yet with all the deafening noise and flaming sky, it was calming in a way. The chaos was like a wonder show at the same time as it was a deadly apocalypse filled with dread and death.

Monstoro refused to let his guard down.

...

Hours later, still awake without rest nor nutrition, Monstoro stood up and looked around again, then froze.

Not far from here was the ally on their way, he knew, and he had to ensure Loaz understood soon enough.

Loaz took the food and water, consuming it with equal voracity to the first. At least it was starting to feel a bit more genuinely alive. "This is fine. Thanks." It wiped off its mouth.

It turned its gaze up to the sky, thick with clouds of smoke cut through by balls of fire. It was mesmerizing in a way. Loaz had always thought of it as such. Not just anyone gets to live to see this. As much grief as it'd caused, they couldn't bring themself to be angry. Maybe they were just too tired to be.
Loaz shut their eyes and wiped the crust from their corners.
If nothing else was needed out of them, they could let themself rest.

The following morning was colder than the day before, for a brief moment it was almost... peaceful.

Luckily the apocalypse seemed to have lifted even if it only lasted few minutes in the dawn.

Monstoro was still up and keeping guard when Loaz awakened from their little beauty sleep, he turned to Loaz now, and beside Monstoro was a beautiful, angel like being. Yeah, it was a human and all, but the soft tones and seemingly silk fabric around them made great compliments to the darkness of the soft dawn.

"...I guess that is our remaining chosen one of this Earth, warden Monstoro...?" The beings soft voice spoke, glancing at Loaz and tilting their head.

The beings face ofcourse was the definition of a perfected mentors one, soft and kind, visibly loving and caring.

They settled down and looked closer at Loaz.
(Edit: I almost wrote lorax here several times)

"Yes... that is the last chosen one. Barely alive when I found them, malnutritioned and dehydrated surrounded by rubble." Monstoro shuffled his arms behind him, then sighed.

"We need to get them to safety, they haven't been taught of The Ways yet."

A cold wind ruffled Loaz awake. They pulled their sad excuse for a coat a little tighter around themself.

It was quiet around them. Impossibly quiet. It hadn't been this quiet since... god knows. The only sound was the remaining ringing in their ears and hushed chatter in front of them.

Loaz rubbed its eyes. There was a second voice they didn't recognize, belonging to, from what their tired eyes could tell, a pale blur. It wiped at its face again.

"Mmh?" It hummed sleepily. It only got fleeting snippets of the conversation and even those were blurry.

The being now kneeled down slightly closer to Loaz, observing all their detail then took off the soft and warm coat of their own, wrapping it around them.

Standing back up, the being looked back at Monstoro, the kind gaze remained and steadiness.

"I assure you they will be fully taught by noon, my own wardens will ensure it personally..." Their soft voice lingered in the dawn, like an echo against cliffs so high.

Monstoro shuddered, it was time for his goodbye soon.
And purpose.

Which there had only been one of unless...

"Come along, little one..." The being helped Loaz to a steady stance, then took their hand in Loaz's. "It's time for you to see your true potencial..."

After that sentence, time seemed to ... change.

One moment Loaz was on Earth, surviving barely holding on by the grasp of the apocalypse, and now? Loaz had been taken to a station.

Hell even a space station was a better word for it.

It was like the ISS that everyone had spoken about in Chemistry.

"Imagine what wonders lay in studying and living in the ISS!" they had all said, cheering upon the invention.

But now, Loaz really knew what they meant.

The ISS had been terraformed into a way more comfortable space than it was the first time, along the walls were hanging pots of tomatos and salads, and everything was so much more colorful than those old images and videos the astronauts used to showcase with Houston on live TV.

Ofcourse, this apocalypse had changed tons.
The death of so many lead to so many fleeing from the universe too, and Loaz was lucky... so lucky.

Loaz was lifted up, and the earth beneath them began to shift. They felt nauseous. Perhaps finally standing with a properly filled stomach did that. Or maybe it was the much more obvious teleportation reason. Maybe both, who knows? Certainly not Loaz, who's only half-processing all of this.

Its feet finally rested on solid ground again. There was color. Nothing smelled like smoke anymore. And the horrible ache in its stomach subsided just a bit.

It rubbed its eyes with its free hand. "Where.... is this? How-" It snatched its other hand from the angel's and stumbled towards those plants. It gently held and almost seemed to pet one of the leaves. It hadn't seen or touched one that wasn't very dead in ages. "Where are we?" They looked back over their shoulder at the angel, eyes finally open and awake, even if they looked as though they could use a hundred more hours. Their smile dropped a bit. "Where's the other guy?"

"Monstoro was simply only your protector back down on the ruins of Earth... he is not needed now. He has served his purpose." The being responded, facing away from Loaz and grabbing a poncho off the wall.

"And this place... don't you recognise it? It's the international space station, or atleast what's left of it.
Many of your kind...

fled."

The being now handed Loaz the silk poncho. Beeming with color, a bit eyestraining though given the lack of color the apocalypse had given.

It was soft, yes, but something felt so wrong about it.. the way it's scent reminded more of blood than fresh fabric...

"You'll need this for your training in seeing your potencial, child, it's for your own good."

(heres a funny fact, Monstoro after serving his purpose is actually just accepting his fate as the rest happens, in the way he was taught, sacrifice was the sole option for his clan of wardens and he was the last)
0 ups, 4w
"But I liked him. He was snappy sure, but he fed me. I'm sure there's more he can do." It flinched a bit as it was handed the fabric, at the bitter scent of it. Its own coat was rough and worn and dirty, but it liked that too. They simply held the fabric and stared at it as if trying to absorb all the color they missed back home.

They looked back up, eyes wide with naive hope. "Surely he's got a place to go at least? Where he got the food and water from?"

"The bread and water was a limited resource only to be handed to you, child.." The being sighed, taking a breath and gently touching by the tomato plants hanging.

"Monstoro left no rations for himself, it was fates luck he found you, and he has accepted his destiny to die."

The mood of the space station changed in the blink of an eye in that moment.
Monstoro, Loaz's greatest protector from just one night ago... was done for.

Loaz started to slightly shake as their eyes wandered, staring back down at Earth.
Just like all other nights... meteors were falling rapidly towards the surface, even in the vacuum of space, Loaz could imagine all the noise.

The roaring, the impact... and the screams.

But they had been saved.

Loaz had survived and been saved aswell as taken to a place barely anyone else could see or get to.

“But- but that’s not-“ What, fair? Nothing about this was fair. Loaz wasn’t supposed to be living here like this. In some fancy space station. For all its faults they had an odd fondness of that wrecked world.

And besides, wasn’t it supposed to *save* those people down there? How were they supposed to just stand by and accept that they’d already long since failed their only job?

Loaz ditched the plant and the fabric to lean against the window, fingers pressed white against the cold glass. They hadn’t felt cold anything in a while. They stared at the smoldering remains of their home.
They could’ve made it if they’d stayed. They’d’ve figured out how.
Such were childish thoughts for someone who should be an adult by now.

“What kind of training? What am I doing here? How do I stop an apocalypse that already happened?” It stared back at the angel. “And, hell- above all else, who ARE you?”
0 ups, 4w,

"Your training is simple... you need to master telekinesis. The ISS is your only safe place now since all other ships... are gone. heh..." The being softly laughed, disturbingly enough.

"I am simply a figment of your imagination you silly child. Monstoro got you here, saved you. And left himself behind."

The being didn't seem to be real at all.
Only first now was it noticable.

Loaz was completely alone on this station.
In the middle of chaos, mayhem and death.

But atleast, there was something else with him. Not a someone... but an item. Neccessary for every soul that would ever land here.

From afar further in the space craft, a ringing noise begun, it was a communcations radio!

...Jackpot. Right?
0 ups, 4w
They looked incredulous. “Telekinesis? Dude, I was living in the dirt like four hours ago. I flunked out of pre-calc. How do you expect me to-…

The second revelation did not help in the slightest.
If… the angel wasn’t real then who the hell pulled them up? Did they teleport themself? They sure as hell weren’t doing that before all this. Woulda been damn convenient to know they could do THAT way back when things were normal. Or were they saying Monstoro did the teleporting? Arguably the less embarrassing possibility.

“I…” Something buzzed, and Loaz pricked up like a prey animal hearing a twig snap. It looked towards the noise and took off running towards it. It couldn’t navigate this place for shit but it could listen as best it could with its damaged ears, and feel the subtle vibration of it under its feet.

The communications phone clicked and there was a voice.

Monstoro's voice.

"Hey..uh kid."

He sounded uncertain, like he was fidgetting with an old phone line.

"I am not sure if you will ever hear this, or for that matter get this message.. but its Monstoro.

By now you are most likely up in the ISS where it is safe, way safer than back down on Earth.

This might sound difficult and plain stupid, I know... but you must master telekinesis, it's the only way you will be able to survive or even save all worlds-- or atleast somebody.

By the time if you hear this at all, I'll be gone. You'll have to rely on the station as your home now, save yourself.

Save the world."
0 ups, 4w
It stared down at the device.
~How do I respond?~
That was their first thought. Their eyes darted around for a way to send a message back. A thank you. Or a goodbye. Something they hadn’t gotten to say. It was hard to see with their vision so clouded.

What kind of prick organization leaves a man out with only enough for one person who isn’t himself? Loaz felt horrible not offering to share. It should’ve. He would last longer.

Loaz wiped at their face, still filthy. It almost didn’t want to clean away the ash. As if to preserve it, the earth, in the pores of their skin. But clearly their eyes had different plans to wash the dirt away for them.

It didn’t like knowing it was alone here. It was nice having someone to talk to that wasn’t itself.
Maybe the bugs and worms in dirt of the gardens would be decent companions.

~People take three days to die of thirst and three weeks to die of hunger. How long was he traveling to find me?~
That was impossible to know.
~How do I learn a skill if nobody’s here to teach me?~

“F**k, I really AM a shitty ‘chosen one’.” The stories always made this sound fun. This was horrible.

The station kept drifting in the space, and as Loaz embraced all their thoughts, a nearby hologram projector flickered on.

It was a childrens mascot on the hologram.
Ofcourse.

For anyone to keep their sanity they'd need a colorful hologram.

"Weeeelcome to the ISS- your brand new home during the apocalypse!" The mascot sprung to life in the hologram. It seemed way more interactive and happy than most in the station by now and filled that empty void with some positivity.

"We've got proud working shower stations, wild growing vegtables and food straight from Earth! Till supplies last.

With a lot of time in store, it's about time for some routinee!"

"For more information, press one..."

Seemed like the ISS had set everything perfectly up for a scenario like this.
0 ups, 4w
Loaz stared up at the mascot and snorted. They would be happier in any other circumstance. Unfortunately, in this one, their humor was drier than earth’s dirt.

At least the station was ready for them.
Whether it was THERE for them was debatable at best.

They pressed 1.
