She's not a member of Kirby's race, she's genuinely more akin to some sort of Dark Matter.

Sonya, in the eyes of Kirby, is a devout follower of Marx, and is greatly determined to help him attain his dream. She knows much more about the world of Dreamland than she lets on. This is due to the fact that she was initially an early resident of the Forgotten Land. She admired Marx because his "dream came true, even if only for a moment," and that "even if it shattered, he still held onto some of the pieces" with hopes that her wish of a fresh start in a new world far away from humanity might come true. One day, it did, and she was sent to a Land between Dreamland and the Forgotten Land for a time, her form being altered to the point where she was anatomically a member of the Dark Matter race. At last, she was cast to Dreamland only a few hours before Marx crashed back to the ground. She didn't know too much about where she was, so she stayed put. The first night, she saw the stars more clearly than she'd ever before, and saw what appeared to be a falling star. Upon closer observation once it approached, she realized that it wasn’t a star, but a falling Dreamlandian. She rushed to aid the Dreamlandian, but after it landed-revealed to be Marx- she remembered that she knew nothing about medicine, and hardly knew anything about cleaning wounds. Once Marx woke up with his makeshift bandages, unable to move much on his own, he directed Sonya to Cappy Town. Due to being so far, however, the two got to know one another, where Sonya admitted that she knew more than she let on, and that she looked up to Marx for quite some time. She then devoted herself to helping his wish come true upon learning for herself that "having a wish come true is bliss" and she wanted the one who gave her hope to have his wish come true. The two became quick friends and talked of wishes while travelling beneath the stars. Once they reached Cappy Town, Marx was healed, and the two quickly left to devise a plan. They found fragments of Nova along the way, storing them, and Sonya learned of her odd new power for the words she write to literally fly off the page and act like whatever the word describes. They used this to their advantage, and after a long time of hiding and collecting Nova's fragments, were at last prepared to put their plan in action. Sonya, however, quickly discovered that Kirby had learned of the plan, and resolved to hold him back the best she could.

Since she was from the Forgotten Land, she knew of many powerful characters in media, and using Nova Cores that Marx spared and her own abilities enveloped herself in their abilities, using many media-based stances to attack Kirby on various accounts. Some of these stances include the 9 Stance, inspired by the Tonberry from Final Fantasy as well as Genocide endings in Undertale, or the Lanceweilder Stance, inspired by post-timsekip Dimitri from Fire Emblem Three Houses. As Kirby progresses, she rants about how Kirby always destroys everything in his path despite knowing where his main target is, questioning him on his ruthlessness, and making claims that Marx was never trying to take control over Popstar for cruel reasons, stating that "Dreamlandians live in fear," and that "he knows you shouldn't be the only one to dream." Eventually, Elfilin joins Kirby, which discomforts Sonya greatly due to his ties to the Forgotten Land. After the first battle with Elfilin involved, she hisses that it "took so long for this dream to come true" and that she wouldn't let it be shattered by the "pink demon's accomplice." Once they at last reach Marx, Sonya intervenes one last time, this time using most of Marx's previous abilities in an Idol Stance, before falling into shadow. Marx, who had grown to be Sonya's friend, was greatly displeased by this, and began to battle Kirby himself with a plethora of new attacks. Some resemble the battle inside of Galactic Nova. Once he is defeated, Sonya climbs out of the darkness, now in her Abyssal Stance after absorbing darkness, and restores Marx's power with the very same darkness, and fight together, ultimately possessed.

After the darkness is shaken away, she releases one final attack with the word "TRUTH" and strikes just above Kirby, where strings appear and break, after flying to Sonya. The player in this no longer controls Kirby, and drags Sonya away, whispering "so much for a fresh start," until dragging her back to Marx and Kirby, forcing her to pick both of them up. She seems to be aware, asking the player "What? Are you... showing mercy?" Sonya was released from the strings and limped away into the final scene, returning to Cappy Town. Elfilin is still there, but he doesn't do much that whole time.

There's also "Manga Headcanons," in which certain characters would behave rather differently depending on the Manga, as though they're placed in one of the strange official mangas. One of the Headcanons, which I call the Simpage Arc, she would be Magolor's wingman and help him get Chilly's phone number(why is the Magochilly ship actually semicanon) and eventually manage to get Magolor to give Chilly a blue feather(harvest moon/story of seasons moment) in which she states that "in some worlds, giving someone a blue feather like that is considered a wedding proposal." Then in the other main Manga Headcanon, which I call the Continuous Arc due to it being the longest Kirby manga, she despises pretty much everyone but can be nice to certain people. Marx is not certain people on this list, and they are actually bitter rivals in this arc. Basically weird pecking AUs.
