He was a morally gray character, except he refused to kill kids, which shows he does have some morals. He’s a broken guy, but not fully evil. Just vengeful. With arrogance and swagger, and good taste in guns.
Morally challenged. Him being hurt by his mother's words but not expressing it in any way actually reveals bit of character lore – it means that he's never been able to express his feelings, which makes people act evil while they're not really evil.
Thanks! Tony needed a bit of polishing and culturing, but he could have lived to be even greater. He honestly should have studied strategy, like Sun Tzu and Machiavelli kind of books. It would have helped him greatly.
I once read a Reddit post where someone observed that Tony only killed for revenge. Everyone he killed had wronged him in some way. If he’d been left alone, I don’t know if he’d actually be violent.
I read in the movie's trivia page on imdb that the only surviving characters are Sosa and Tony's mother, both of who cut ties with him, so that's a good observation
