It's crazy how that works. I once saw heard of that a couple times happening in entrance level jobs that require 1-5 years work experience.

Apparently so! Especially since there was nepotism that was happening and even some bias. Like some people skipping lines and immediately being accepted despite it being the first round of candidates. Plus, there was two lines of learnerships and non-learnership candidates. Even some people openly admitting to bribery and nepotism. I wasn't there though. A teacher in class told us the story when we reached that topic in Life Orientation. It was based on her experience of applying as a teacher in our high-school for the first time.
