I just think the setting is that setting from little nightmares

Here's my theory:

Perhaps the setting is a underground race of humans long before humans were born who lived underground until earth became the planet we know today, which flooded their underground cities and forcing them to live on a artifical land for themselves in the underground area they call home, where they slowly devolved into zombies.
