On September 11th, 2001, two planes were intentionally flown into the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in an attack by the middle eastern terrorist group Al-Qaeda, tragically killing over 3000 people. Both planes were headed for California, and were chosen by the terrorists due to the large amount of fuel in the tanks of the planes, causing a large explosion on impact. The terrorists attacked the flight crew with box cutters, and then steered the planes back toward Manhattan. There was a third plane headed for D.C, but the passengers on board managed to attack the terrorists and crash the plane into a corn field in Pennsylvania. It is likely that the third plane was going to hit the Capitol building. A fourth plane was crashed into the Pentagon, claiming over 110 lives. The North tower was hit first, but the South Tower, which was hit around half an hour later, fell first. A shower of smoke and asbestos rained on Lower Manhattan, and many people after 9/11 died to respiratory issues. The youngest victim of the attacks was a 2-year-old girl on one of the planes.
