It was a quiet night in the hospital. Ophelia was merely a nurse at this point who was in charge of supplying medicine for patients who tended the area. Every day, she’d notice the girl always facing the window, into the outdoors.. Eventually she’d walk into the room and sit down with the girl.
“Who are you?” the girl would ask, looking around, trying to find the source of the sounds. “Is that you, Miss Hazel? Is it time?”
“No, Kiko. My name is Ophelia. I’m the one that supplies your needs.” She says in a comforting tone. The girl stared off into space, not saying another word. She doesn’t seem up for talking but Ophelia keeps trying. “Where is your family? I haven’t seen anyone visit you.” The girl didn’t answer. Ophelia waited patiently for her to respond but it didn't look like she would… and so she got up to leave but-
“Julian… is dead…” Kiko would say quietly. Ophelia sat back down and apologized for bringing up that topic, but Kiko kept going. “He was always getting into trouble… until he got into the wrong crowd… the only person I met who tried to help him was… Keys man…? But he told me he failed too…” Kiko’s breathing got a bit shaky until Ophelia held onto her arm. The girl started to cry softly onto her blanket. “He always did bad things in order to make money for my treatment… Why did he have to go?”
“Hey…” Ophelia said, comforting her. “It’s okay… he did all these things just for you… I’m sure he’s watching from heaven.” This made Kiko feel better. Wiping her tears, she would lay back down on her bed.
“Thank you, Miss Ophelia.” She’d say before drifting to bed. Ophelia looked at a clipboard that was laying on the desk next to her bed… She then looked back at Kiko who was deep in her slumber. Ophelia then made a deal with herself that day. Her surgery was coming up, and she was going to comfort her the entire way through. The next few days, Ophelia would come in, bringing lollipops, and telling her stories and a princess who had help from a witch in order to go on adventures beyond her tower. The two had a close relationship with each other… similar to a mother and a daughter
