Competitive Pokemon is using Pokemon you've captured in the official games (Pokemon Scarlet and Violet) and using them to battle other players. In VGC, all battles are double battles, meaning you have two Pokemon on the field at a time. You bring a team of six to a tournament and every battle you select four Pokemon. Each round is best two out of three, so you need to win two games to win a set. Additionally, this tournament will use the Regulation I format. In Regulation I, you're only allowed up to 2 "Restricted Legendary" Pokemon, which are the super powerful box art Pokemon. That's why I don't have as many legendaries, I'm literally not allowed any more.

This tournament, being the Milwaukee Regional championship, has three phases. Phase 1 takes place on the first day of competition, where each player plays a total of 8 rounds and has to win 6 of them to advance. Even though you can get by with just 6 wins, I want to win 7 or 8.

This is because phase 2, which takes place on day 2, has you play another 3 rounds. Since your record carries over from the previous day, I still want to win games on day 1 to have a better record going into day 2.

Once you finish the first 11 rounds, the top 16 players go into Top Cut, a single elimination bracket. In order to guarantee making it into top cut, I need a record of 9-2 or better, but I can still make it in even if I drop another game.

Team breakdown:

Koraidon is my first restricted Legendary. It sets up the Harsh Sunlight condition which gives it an Attack boost thanks to its ability Orichalcum Pulse. It has a standard move set and stat spread, plus a good item in Clear Amulet. I gave it the nickname "Indominus" as a Jurassic World reference.

Lunala is my other restricted Legendary. It uses Trick Room to reverse the speed order so if my Pokemon are ever slower, I can make them faster. Wide Guard counters the best Pokemon in the format, Calyrex-Shadow Rider. Meteor Beam works with the held item Power Herb to give Miraidon a Special Attack boost. I really want to use my shiny Lunala since it's my favorite shiny. Its nickname is Yue as a reference to Avatar the Last Airbender.

Raging Bolt has the Protosynthesis ability which gives it a damage boost in the sun set up by Koraidon. Even without that boost, Life Orb helps it deal consistent damage. In addition to dealing strong damage, it's naturally incredibly bulky. It can eat hits while whittling down my opponent's HP. Its nickname is Melman as a reference to the giraffe from Madagascar.

Incineroar is one of the best Pokemon ever made since it has an insane list of tools for supporting its team. It's never taking KOs but it does succeed at cutting down on how much damage the opponent does. I gave it a lot of attack EVs and Flare Blitz so it can actually deal damage in the sun. I gave it the nickname Wildcat as a reference to the KSU mascot, and I take online classes from KSU.

Rillaboom is a monkey. It takes hits, can disrupt with Fake Out, completely shuts down Miraidon, and deals decent damage. Its name is Monkey because it is a Monkey. It is a shiny Monkey because I have a shiny Monkey.

Flutter Mane is strong and fast. It's meant to be clean-up crew after the rest of the team has done most the work. Its name is Hairspray because my friend has a shiny one named Hairspray.
