There are 5 types of preaching. Expository, topical, textual, narrative & evangelistic & all are needed. Expository & textual inform the mind whereas narrative & topical inform the heart more so & evangelistic informs both. People aren't machines that ONLY need the mind knowledge but they also need the heart knowledge & they must be balanced out. any of these types of preaching done alone don't inform the entire person; Doing it only one way also makes it too easy to filter everything through one lens which either talks to the mind alone or the heart alone instead of the entire person with the spirit in the forefront. Jesus Himself taught in all of these methods & depending on the need did one more profoundly than another. This "My way or the highway" attitude is dangerous & brings much suspicion of why this way is the only way. All methods are abused by preachers & as bad as it is with them all there is a special danger associated with expositors; It's much easier to see how pastors can use other methods to push one agenda & it is often done but expository seems less likely to do this since it goes verse by verse which gains more trust from hearers because after all why would a devil does expository & emphasize each verse in detail right? Precisely! In the hands of a true pastor it is priceless but still not the ONLY way that should be used alone but should be used for sure but in the hands of a clever devil it is the most subtle, insidious & deceptive since the trust it gains; is profound especially when they disagree with the right people & politics, emphasize mortifying the flesh, God's glory, His sovereignty, defy the government etc. Unsurprisingly this is a popular method & the only method in 5 point Calvinism & with all the name-it claim-it/prosperity junk, Catholic/Orthodox, easy believism works only & Emergent/liberal theology/WOKE junk true Christians want to hear many; things you guys say but you filter EVERYTHING through TULIP & limited atonement is a nuanced Gnostic idea that produces terrible fruits. The subtly Catholic canons, catechism, confessions & many Puritans as your "church fathers" you can destroy more than the others have. Calvin wasn't the problem but his successor Theodore Beza who changed his writings & context of it & used cult shaming language. You guys are more abominable than the others!
