Who was this game made for?
Was it made for new players? If so, they’re naturally going to play the story mode first (which is NOT what Monkey Ball is about) and the story mode itself is downgraded immensely from the original. It has no cutscenes, no dialogue, no soundtrack, and the levels are linear, not pick-and-choose. It’s also bad for new players because it’s no longer an arcade game. You have infinite lives and there are no name entries anymore, so the experience is trivialized outside of a completion list to grind through.
Was it made for fans of the originals? If so, the physics are nothing like in the original, which fundamentally ruins how the game plays, and some of the stages were remade really counterproductively. This plays nothing like the originals, and that’s a slap in the face to people who love those games and also made those games. It doesn’t even do its due diligence to preserve your momentum. They also downgraded a lot of the party games like Monkey Target and Monkey Baseball, which had bad controls, horrible friction, and an extreme lack of charm. All of this on top of the fact that the original soundtrack is locked behind a paywall and doesn’t even come with every song.
Was it made for couch co-op fans? If so, then why are only the party games co-op? You can’t even play the main game with your friends like you could in the originals which came out in 2001.
Was it made for fans of Banana Blitz? If so, those people don’t even exist.
