If you want a more unique experience, I recommend the rom hack Pokemon Emerald Seaglass. I played it recently and it was genuinely some of the most fun I’ve had in ages playing a Pokemon game.
on my first play-through i beat kukui and the elite 4 after like 30 attempts and my 2DS died on the way home from wherever my parents dragged me, i was in the middle of the cutscene and the game doesn’t autosave once you become champion i think
also the only reason i selected this is because it’s where i caught my first two shinies ever, an abra (catching that f**ker was the luckiest thing i’ve ever done) and caterpie (metapod’s shiny looks amazing btw)
