It's a damn good looking Optimus prime. I think it might even look better than the Masterpiece-44 Optimus prime. They absolutely nailed the look of G1 Optimus. He's just fun to look at. Fun is a word I can also use to describe the transformation. The robot and alt mode look perfect, which also goes for the MP-44 figure, but unlike that figure, this transformation doesn't make me want to amputate my fingers so j have no choice but to never attempt transforming the figure ever again. Ss86 Prime's transformation is actually fun, simple and highly effective. The engineering is unbelievably clever. I look forward to transforming this figure whenever I pick it up. That's a feeling I wish I had for a lot of transformer figures in my collection. Now let's talk a out the poseability. One thing I never expected to see on SS86 prime is butterfly joints. Some of the most recent masterpiece figures don't even have that. The fact Hasbro put this point of articulation on a studio series figure is incredible. They didn't have to do it but they did, and I'm so thankful for it. Now let's talk about the problems I have with this figure. First off, the paint chipping. For 90 dollars you'd expect the paint on this hand sized figure to be very durable, but it's not. I've got some paint chipping on the grill of the truck mode. Usually paint chipping doesn't bother me but this was a 90 dollar mostly unpainted figure. Surely the paint quality could have been improved just slightly. I'm not rough with the figure either. This paint chipping just comes from transforming the figure. I may have just gotten a bad copy though. Now the smokestacks. I hate them. I understand they have to move easily so you don't snap them while posing Optimus but they spin on his shoulders like they're meant to be a propeller gimmick and it is so annoying. The molding of the smokestacks could have been a little better too. There's no hole at the top of them, or a small pit that represents a hole. It's just flat on the top. It's weird, especially for a figure with attention to detail everywhere you look. Now let's talk about the accessories. The trailer looks amazing on the truck mode, it completes the truck mode. But I have Optimus in robot mode way more often than truck mode, so the trailer gets rendered useless. It's just a box that sits aside holding the accessories. One of the accessories is a blast effect for the truck mode to replicate those two frames in the 86 movie where Optimus transforms. That's cool I guess. That probably added 5 dollars to the figure. I probably would have been fine without it. Speaking of fine without it, f**k you Roller. What good are you? Adding another 5 dollars to the figure. I never have it on display and well it does nothing so why pick it up? Ss86 Optimus should have came out with an alternate release without the trailer. It could have been cheaper. I don't think I need the trailer. Going back to poseability, Optimus's hands can do some interesting things. They can go inside his arm, exposing a stump you can plug an energon ax into. I love that a lot. They can also open and close, allowing you to put his ion blaster in it... Very very very closely. He holds it like a toddler would hold a cup of water. He wouldn't give a damn if he dropped that gun. It rattles in his hand. None of my figures do that. Why you? The 90 dollar figure? You were supposed to be premium, but you can't even get a solid grip on your gun. BGH WHY. But yeah, good figure, 9/10 would recommend. My review for the SS86 Optimus Prime figure
