Since owls are nocturnal, I'm especially not safe when I'm asleep

Here are my suggestions.

1. close your blinds and/or curtains
2. Double check that all doors are locked, maybe put a chain on them as well
3. keep your closet open. that way if you find that its been closed you know to run
4. turn off your location if you haven't already done that

maybe the fact that i use spicy suet in the bird feeders would help...wait birds can't taste spicy...well, at least i keep forgetting to refill the feeders...but then the wren yells at me.
