South wanted to keep slaves, the North were growing openly against it and was pushing to make slavery illegal, so the South wanted to secede from the US to keep their slaves
Lincoln didn't want the states to divide over it, so the South declared war on Lincoln for the right to secede so they could keep their slaves
Then Lincoln says his goal is not only to keep the states united, but to ban slavery across all the states

America runs on slave labour, especially in the south. The government starts to see the inhumanity in slavery and decides it’s not a good idea. The south gets uppity and secedes from the union, or put simply they say “oh f**k you” and make their “own country” called the Confederate States of America (CSA) more commonly known as the Confederacy. A long war is fought until eventually slavery us abolished in the early 1860’s and the south comes back into the union, albeit begrudgingly.
