1. acquire a firearm and the correct ammunition from your local gun store or sporting goods store.

2. eject the magazine using the mag release on your firearm (position varies), or if you are using slightly more primitive forms of guns, open the bolt located at the top of the receiver.

3. load in a sufficient amount of ammunition into the magazine (typically is stated on the magazine itself).

4. find a safe place to practice, and a safe target.

5. make sure you have the 3 essential rules of gun safety before beginning (keep your finger off the trigger at all times until you are ready to shoot, always be aware of your target and what is behind it, never point your firearm at something you are not willing to destroy).

6,insert the magazine into the magwell, and cycle the first round (whether it be racking the slide, charging the bolt, or cocking the hammer).

7. spread your legs out as if you are in a fighting stance, and hold your firearm out with 2 hands, support hand overlapping the trigger hand.

8. aim at your target using the iron sights, using the rear sights as a guide for the front sight.

9. squeeze the trigger firmly, but not rigidly.

10. shoot at your own pace at which is comfortable for you, and when you have emptied out the magazine, keep the firearm unloaded and lower it to the ready position.

11. continue repeating the process from step 2 until you have successfully mastered your firearm of choice.

if you have not yet had a catastrophic disaster related to the firearm, I will have assumed that you have succeeded in shooting for the first time.
