Hell is designed to contain and torture it's inhabitants. The human soul is not built to withstand it. Once a soul breaks, it turns into something else, something that acts as both a life source and power source for a Demon. This thing is what makes their eyes change color. They can choose if people see their human eyes or their Demon eyes. Now, the color of the eyes tells you what bloodline of Humans they came from (which is different from what is typically believed). Depending on their bloodline, alters how powerful they are.
