yeah but normally theres a heatsink on them (i lost mine) and im more worried about the breadboard or a capacitor burning up, or just breaking the chip

Yeah I'd put that heating back or your gonna lose the chip
this is actually a newer chip as well. originally i was using a TDA7266S, but it broke, so i bought 2 TDA7297 chips, which should handle more power as well

More power almost always means more heat
Get a heatsink instead of risking it
I'm going off of my own experiences with expensive chips burning up because I didn't get a heatsink
