I guess, but people also use wokeness as a term to veil their bigotry, seeing anything go “respect minorities!” Makes them go “aghhhhh why is everything so woke and political these days!?!?!?!” So I’m using the word woke in that context to mock those people

yeah but that works the other way too. People will "respect minorities" by erasing others and then call you racist for pointing that out, even though doing it in reverse would most definitely qualify as racist to them
Like I've had people tell me that Tiana from the frog prince cannot have her race changed because her race is vital to who she is - even though she was race swapped in the 2009 animation and people don't know that.
Nobody has a problem with black characters in disney, but if you're going to make a movie about one, make one using an african fairytale and make that famous by making it good (the way all the fairytales got famous during disney's golden age). Nobody complained about Aladdin or Mulan. You can't take a white story, put the character in blackface and then cry "racist" when people don't like it.

I mostly agree, but I think it’s pretty racist to complain about black characters in environments where they make sense to be there. For example, in the Percy Jackson show, people were mad that Annabeth’s (a white girl in the books) actor was black, but that’s just stupid because 1: her whiteness was never integral to her character and 2: the story takes place in modern America, of course there’s gonna be black people

Same thing is true in reverse. Not making Wanda Romani in the MCU was fine, but The Ancient One being white instead of Indian was kinda dumb

yeah i wouldn't have a problem with making a character black unless it was in a place where it makes no sense
like rings of power's nomadic melting pot tribe makes zero sense, those people would all intermingle and then would all look the same with black, asian, white, etc heritage in all of them
game of thrones had different skin tones for different tribes and nobody complained about that.

yeah cleopatra was just stupid, idek why you'd want to claim cleopatra anyway, she was a manipulator who used appeal to coerce powerful men to do her favors. I guess they gotta make her black bc she probably had to be hot irl to pull that off, but that would be like excusing a female Mussolini purely because she was female.
