So the first mistake was to go that far , mostly cause the longer it last , the more pain will outcome in both ways . What i recommand is maybe you tell them the truth about why you said you liked him , that you knew he has social anxiety and you didnt wanted him to feel bad by being rejected , tell them that you can stay in contact if they start panicking but the sooner , the better
