Most retail laptops (or whatever you might use) come with Mechanical Hard Drives as storage called HDDs, which have very slow read and write speeds. You can probably find some videos on how they work, Only modern/practical use for them would be to build a server or something. An SSD stores information electronically, so you don't have to physically go read bits of data off of a platter.
