Was jawboning with Viking yesterday, my tale:

Used to have to work in them installing, (of all things Pay TV) They were built BEYOND the durability of any public school I had ever seen. Yet gaurds over windows, exit signs, even hand rail that would survive armagedon were torn up to shit.
By the same people with no energy to work the business end of a broom mind you.
When they were finally blown up in the late 90's? (this is Chicago BTW) it was only the rat infestation, and roaches that made them unliveable. The Yuppies wanted to renovate em and make a fortune ?
NOPE ! "Gentrification"

Learned to love the stairs there. When we got really bored in the burbs, we'd call up old friends in, iirc, Area 5, and get in some 'vertcal patrolling'. The Tac guys were LOADS of fun. 🙄

Yeah, the star wells smelled
almost as pungent as the elevators.
