Obviously you could break ANY genre of video games down to basic controls, but still.
I remember playing Crab Champions, Recore, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, and Horizon Zero Dawn. With the exception of Horizon, they all feel the same to play.
> Hold the joystick down right or left
> jump to dodge attacks
> spam the right trigger or hold it down
The end.
The only 3rd person shooter I’ve played that felt completely unique was Dead Space, a horror game about using precision to cut off limbs. You can’t jump in that game and you have to conserve ammo.
The gameplay in Recore especially felt extremely monotonous. There was quite literally no skill or accuracy involved.
