After a lot of shit that's been happening as of lately, I’ve made the tough decision to leave Imgflip for good. I wanted to leave a few months ago, but I stayed so I could have fun with the friends I made there. However, I later realised that there was no point trying to enjoy myself on the website.
I first joined Imgflip in 2021, and joined MSMG in July of that year. There, I met people like Blaziken, Jemy, and Bombhands. Fast forward to 2024, and I’ve now made friends with Emosnake, Swede, Potassium, Chrono, Neko, Millie, Sylvia and a lot more. Even though I’ve received a lot of support during my time on Imgflip, I’ve also received hate. I've received comments from others insulting me and telling me I’m worthless, and I’ve seen some unpleasant memes being made about me. I’ve also done bad things on this website, like brigading other users. I now acknowledge that was wrong, though.
It certainly doesn't help that this website has become worse over the years. I’ve seen so many people I was close to leave or delete. I’ve been trying to help Sylvia with their mental health. I've seen borderline pornography being posted in MSMG, which according to the site mods, “follows” the ToS. I became friends with someone who I later found out emotionally manipulated others into dating her. I've seen MSMG users bully LGBTQ members for fun. I found out Clo actually lied about Jay dying from cancer. I've seen so many people do horrible things on this website. I've kept nearly all of this to myself. It’s been building up exponentially over time. I feel like I’ve been brainwashed. I'm only 16.
In my opinion, Imgflip in its current state is a shithole. The site mods completely took all of the fun out of MSMG by banning some of the OGs and giving mod to people who didn't really deserve it. That was back in May 2023 though. With three normal users now owners, it's a step in the right direction, but it's not even nearly enough to stop me from leaving. I’ve also seen loads of kids crying about upvote begging, like, why the hell is that an issue? If you don't like upvote beggars, just ignore them. It's that simple.
I'm not gonna be deleting my account, but I’m not giving it to anyone either. The only time I’ll be logging back in from now on is to change my name to “AbandonedMemory”.
