in september of 1807
russia and sweden were in a miniwar with each other (during the napoleonic wars)
sweden had lost the battle and gave the russian empire their finnish territory
but they also gave up a beloved island called Aland, speaking swedish and having a swedish flag.
Finland still has aland but they decided to split the island in half.
