Thousands of years ago the first settlers in Europe eventually came to what is now the Netherlands, where their farming practices ended up creating a lot of low-lying land in the area. This was the case in the 1300s.
Since the 1800s increasing infrastructure has allowed for a lot of land in the Netherlands to become habitable. Some of this land is even below sea level if I recall.
Anyways, the punchline is that it appears on face value that global warming has affected the Netherlands since the ocean level has changed since then, even though it has in fact lowered and not risen as is what is normally associated with global warming.
