...I actually made an entire essay on it the other day. Here's an exert:
The first big red flag we’ve got here is Anxiety...why does she exist? There was not ONE person who walked out of the theater after watching Inside Out 1 who said “Man, I really wish they had included Anxiety.” NOBODY SAID THAT. All Anxiety does in this movie is copy Fear, and throughout the movie, even after Anxiety becomes the antagonist, Fear makes it very clear that he’s firmly on her side. The gang will be trying to do the most RANDOM thing, and out of the blue, Fear will say “I bet Anxiety would know what to do in this situation.” The whole movie, I was just waiting for them to announce their engagement. They sure acted like it was gonna happen! Anxiety was nothing more to Disney than a cheap excuse to make a villain. Oh, and there’s also Anxiety’s voice actor, Maya Hawke. (slight chuckle) She does not fit the part at all. Amy Poehler, AKA Joy, always sounds happy, in both films. Fear is played by a man named Tony Hale, and he sounds nervous without even trying! Maya Hawke? No. Just no. In the movie, Anxiety looks the part, but she does not sound like the part. She just doesn’t sound nervous!
<had to cut out one of the paragraphs for this comment to save character space>
Finally, my biggest nitpick about the film, the thing that made me run out of this school building, sobbing over how far Disney had fallen, even more than I had predicted...Riley’s strategy for coping with puberty is RIDICULOUS. At the start of the movie, what keeps Riley going in life is the thought “I’m a good person.” Sounds great, right? That’s what keeps me going in life. Then after the big boss battle between Joy and Anxiety, Riley’s sense of self changes a little bit, and according to Joy, it’s a good change! Now I ask you something: if you’re feeling down in the dumps and you feel like nothing you do is worth anything...? Is it comforting to tell yourself “I’m a good person! I’m a horrible person! I’m a terrible friend! I’m an awesome friend! I’m not good enough!” INSPIRING, ‘UH?! Anybody? Well, that’s how Riley copes with things. She has those thoughts constantly running through her head, and everybody says it’s healthy for her. It isn’t! “But your sense of self doesn’t have to be just one thing! It can be as complicated as you want!” NOT IF IT CONTRADICTS ITSELF LIKE THAT!
