I bet Fay went to face him

and then nearly crushing her with a claw
before some barnacle pain made him back off
at which point he fled
at the end, when you complete it, a sleep gas can falls over and flies into the vent Fay is crawling through, knocking him out and letting you go
however this introduces a new environmental threat

actually I take it back
the way it works is that you have to wait for a room filled with sleep gas to clear out before you can enter
and by that I mean just waiting for the gas to flow out the door until it's really low
occasionally you can find funny colored blood dripping from a moving spot on the ceiling (hint hint)
Sluggy attacks would be at an all time high, especially in rooms with Fay present (blood = be still)
