At least Nintendo make Toxic Pokemon Fans happy. I guess.

It was expected to happen

It's strange, y'know. Countless fans love the fangames, and ever since Sword and Shield came out, fans have wanted Pokemon Gun. When "Pokemon Gun" was open to play, the extremists hate it because of similar character designs, but every time a fangame comes out with literally over hundreds of the same characters and some fakemon, they adore it.

Did they finally do it?

they should not have done that

Nintendo should be suing Palworld but they are doing it for the wrong reasons (gameplay [what they are suing for] vs. design stealing [what they should sue Palworld for])
