I think a part of it comes from how men lots of times grow up repressed and with a narrow view of masculinity. They might finally break out of that mold and overcompensate because of all the pent up self expression and feelings. Women tend to have a lot more wiggle room in terms of clothing and presentation, so if they transition to a dude, they aren't as repressed.
