I'll explain my idea in the comments and maybe someone can help

So his name is Crocogator, and the basic concept is that he takes design cues from a crocodile locomotive and alligator clamps. His hands (and maybe feet) would be the clamps, and his body would be inspired by the train.
The color scheme I have in mind is also based on the locomotive, so a sort of orangey-brown.

Sounds pretty cool!
