On his way back to metropolitan France in a horse carriage with the survivors Jacques asked the woman who spoke french about the cannibals "So what do you know about this?" "It's a disease. We call it 'the blight'. We don't know about it other than it's sinners who refused god's message who started it and began infecting others... Beasts..." She replied

He absorbed the information "so it originally started with just sinners and spread to holy people correct? " "Yes.. oh my poor husband.. eaten alive by those beasts.. his screams remain in my head." Her voice shaky. "How long have you been married?" He asked?

"it's been two years since we met and I've known him much longer... Well his soul now trapped in the body of the Beasts." She stared into the dark forest for a second "Anyways.. we know only priests can prevent infection and can keep them away with a crucifix.. regular people tried. My mother died trying." As she said this he looked at the crucifix given to him by Bertrand. He noticed something not there before. Words reading "Go ahead"

Out of of the blue the horses got scared. "CANNIBALS!" The driver yelled. Unfortunately the men were out of ammunition. The blades were sent elsewhere to help with other outbreaks. The only thing was the crucifix. Jacques knowing it was the only possible way to finish this was to use the cross to keep them back.

He got off the wagon and held the cross in front of him as he slowly approached the small group of zombies. The blight was unholy and could be tamed by a priest... But somehow they all ran away from Jacques. Red eyes in the forest appeared. They moved away. Scared groans and roars were heard in a retreat.

In the eyes of one of them refusing to move he saw the same thing as the one eating the man in the city. The words "He knows where you are" were heard in his head and it disappeared.

It wasn't just god who knew where they were...
