this is why i use SFM.
but the pro-con is about how on one, you get a good looking product for more effort, or a good looking product that at a distance z-fights.
yeah, im pretty sure the glitchX creators all use mesh, but is just guess.
i use SFM just because the faces can be real easy, also, controlled by bone structure shenanigans.
its just a bunch of little points, its like mesh, but with less "please go here" and more "lets put this here and see what the other bones think of it".
