well then that guy’s wrong lmao, if the government says it cares about the overall welfare of people then it only makes sense that it employs things like driver’s licenses which affect things like safety of its people.
there’s a very big difference between needing a license to operate a vehicle which could easily end lives and cause thousands of dollars in damage and in comparison a license to make toast which does not have the capacity to cause damage and hurt lives. additionally, cars are employed on public roads, while toasters are mainly used only in people’s own homes/apartments, or in more private areas like workplace facilities. what the libertarian objects is the fact that a mandatory driver’s license impedes on their own ability to drive, claiming that any impediment to their “right to drive” shouldn’t exist. but i think what matters more is the rights of the surrounding people as a whole and their welfare.
